If you've had more than one job or changed your name or address and you haven’t let your super fund know, you may have more than one super account.

You can search for lost super online at myGov through the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). To help keep track of your super, make sure your details are always up to date with the ATO and your super fund.

If not all of your superannuation accounts are listed on your MyGov account, you can reach out to your previous super providers and ask them to update your details, send you information on your fund, including any annual statements you may have missed. Alternatively, many super fund providers have online portals where you can access your super information. You’ll need to register with each fund to access your information.

Where you have super monies with funds that have an account balance of less than $6,000, the ATO will attempt to ‘marry’ your funds for you and bring your super funds together. When bringing your funds together, the ATO will consolidate these low account balance funds into the superannuation fund where your employer is currently contributing your superannuation guarantee payments.

From 1 November 2021, employees had their existing super fund ‘stapled’ to them when they change jobs. This means that one super fund will follow an employee from job to job and contributions will be paid into that super fund, unless you decide to join another super fund.

If you’re new to the workforce, the super fund you join will be ‘stapled’ to the first super fund you join, unless you nominate a new superannuation provider.
