Superannuation plan/policy owners

If you hold a superannuation plan/policy, it’s essential to understand that as your super comes with tax advantages, legislation stipulates when you can withdraw your preserved super.

If you meet one of the conditions of release criteria listed below and would like to withdraw your funds, please click here for step-by-step guidance.

Generally, you can access your preserved super only when you meet one of the following conditions of release: 

• You’ve reached your preservation age and retired;
• You’re aged 60 or over and ceased gainful employment;
• You’re aged 65 or over;
• You hold an expired or cancelled temporary resident visa and have permanently departed Australia (this option is limited to certain visa categories and isn’t available to New Zealand citizens); or 
• You’ve reached preservation age but continue to work and have begun a transition-to-retirement income stream. 

What is preservation age?

Preservation age is the age at which you can typically access your super. The preservation age can vary from 55 to 60, depending on your date of birth. For the most up to date information please refer the Australian Tax Office (ATO) website.
