It’s easy to grow your super by as little as $100 with after tax contributions into your super fund. These contributions are non-concessional contributions, as they are made with your after-tax income that has not been taxed by your super fund. For the 2024-25 financial year, the non-concessional contributions cap is $120,000.
You have the option of claiming these contributions as a tax deduction. When this is done, this means that these after-tax contributions that you have made convert to concessional contributions, which are generally taxable at 15%. For the 2024-25 financial year, the concessional contributions cap is $30,000.
All you need to do is notify your super fund by completing a Notice of Intent to claim or vary a tax deduction. This form must be acknowledged by your fund before you lodge your tax return for the year.
Access the notice of intent to claim or vary a tax deduction.
If you’re aged between 67 and 74, you can continue to make contributions into your super. However, you must meet the ‘work test’ if you intend to claim a deduction for these personal contributions. (You do not need to meet the ‘work test’ where you do not intend to claim a deduction for these personal contributions and make the contribution/s out of after-tax money.)
